Success case : Lightening The LED Heat sink
" I want to lighten even an 1g. About LED Al heat sink.” There was a demand from the customer. Specific gravity of metal are Al:Mg=2.67:1.82 About 2/3 lightens if it is the same design. However the customer demand is not a simple design change,Thin die casting ,the product liquidity to the metal mold also that was one of the characteristics of magnesium ,Similar and more surface area . For mass-produce , thickness and pulling out inclination is necessary.It cannot satisfy customer needs when caught in past common sense.The challenge even of an ultimate thin die casting started
Actual work and adoption technology
The metal mold examination started for the thin die casting. Generally,Against 140mm in the height of the fin ,fin thickness 2mm,pulling out inclination 1~2°are needed. However our design is Against 140mm in the height of the fin ,fin thickness 1.5mm,pulling out inclination 0.2° In result the weight of the product is 3.6Kg. in case of Al,the weight of the product is 1.1Kg in case of Mg. The difference is 2.5Kg. It decides a basic design,next is the runner layout for liquidity and the method that removes from metal mold. The metal mold to which engineer’s knowhow was condensed was produced.
The metal mold was made in three weeks. The short leadtime is our strong point. The metal mold is produced based on the metal mold drawing that our company made. As the result not only the lead time is shortened,but gripped the whole knowhow about casting. Diverse issues occur first ,and time and the cost were spent. It mass-produces it without trouble now.
